The Village of Hampshire is a small Village that is located in the northwest corner of Kane County, Illinois. The west side of Hampshire is bordered by the village of Huntley and the southeast portion of Hampshire is bordered by Pingree Grove. Route 72 passes through the southern part of Hampshire. Hampshire has a population of approximately 5,600 people. The population in Hampshire spiked recently.
The first settlor in Hampshire was Zenus Allen. Zenus Allen came to the area from Vermont and settled in what is now Hampshire, in 1836. He named the area Henpeck. The area was part of the Chicago Galena Stagecoach Trail along Route 20. In 1845 the area was organized as Hampshire Township. In 1876 the area was incorporated into the Village of Hampshire. The farming community in Hampshire became the second largest milk producing and shipping station in Illinois.
In 1839 fires were sweeping through the Great Plains causing great damage and destruction. The fire passed through the Village of Hampshire causing damage to the Prairie and to the local farmers. The fire came to be known as “The Terrible Fire of 1839.”

Hampshire is located in Kane County, Illinois. The Kane County Courts are part of the 16th Judicial Circuit. All Hampshire criminal cases are heard at the Kane County Judicial Center. The Kane County Judicial Center is located southwest of the intersection of Randall Road and Route 38. All Hampshire felony cases are heard on the third floor of the Kane County Judicial Center. Most misdemeanor Hampshire criminal cases are heard on the second floor of the Kane County Judicial Center.
The Kane County Clerk of the Circuit Court’s office is located at 540 South Randall Road, Saint Charles, Illinois. The Kane County Clerk’s office is just down the street from The Kane County Judicial Center.
If you are arrested for a felony in Hampshire, you will be taken to the Kane County Judicial Center for a Bond Hearing. Bond Hearings at the Kane County Judicial Center are at 8:30 a.m. and at 3:30 p.m. Weekend and Holiday Bond Court for Hampshire felony cases are in room 005 in the lower level of the Kane County Judicial Center. While the actual hearings will take place at the Kane County Judicial Center, you will appear via video feed from The Kane County Jail, which is located next door to the Kane County Judicial Center.
