The entire cost for the construction of the original Lake County Courthouse was $4,000. In 1853 a building was built next to the Courthouse to house the County Administration offices and to store the county records. In 1875 a massive fire destroyed the Lake County Courthouse. County Commissioners originally decided to rebuild the courthouse in Highland Park. However, County Commissioners eventually decided to rebuild the Courthouse in Waukegan.
Throughout the years, the Lake County Commissioners have expanded the Justice Center in Waukegan to include the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the Lake County Jail, the Coroner’s Office, the Health Department, Division of Transportation, Public Works and the remainder of the Lake County government services. Today, Waukegan serves as the center for the Lake County Government agencies.
Today, approximately 704,000 people live in Lake County Illinois. Approximately 75% of the population of Lake County is white, 7% black, 6.3% Asian and 19.9% is Hispanic or Latino. –Round Lake Branch Court-1792 Nicole Lane, Round Lake Beach, Illinois 60073;

Bond Court for Lake County criminal cases is held in C-120 of the Babcock Judicial Center which is located next to the Lake County Jail. Bond Hearings are at 9 a.m. and at 1:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Pre-Trial Hearings and Preliminary Hearings are held at 10:30 am and at 1:30 pm in Room C-120 of the Babcock Judicial Center.
Weekend and Holiday Bond Court is held during certain limited hours in Room C-120 of the Babcock Judicial Center. State law requires that criminal defendants who have been arrested for a felony offense must be brought before a Judge for a Bond Hearing within 48 hours of their arrest.
Bond Court also hears and issues any requests for search warrants and arrest warrants by law enforcement personnel.
